Prashant Veer

Overview

Prashant Veer (born Prashant Ramendra Veer; 24 November 2005) is an Indian cricketer who plays as a left-arm spinning all-rounder for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. He gained prominence after a breakout performance in the 2025 Uttar Pradesh T20 League and was acquired by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹14.20 crore in the IPL 2026 auction, making him one of the most expensive uncapped players in IPL history.

Early Life and Background

Prashant Veer was born in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, into a modest family. His father works as a 'Shiksha Mitra' (primary teacher) with a monthly income of around ₹12,000. Facing financial challenges early on, Veer received support from coaches and mentors to pursue cricket. He moved to Saharanpur for better training facilities and progressed through Uttar Pradesh's age-group and domestic systems.

Domestic Career

Veer made his T20 debut for Uttar Pradesh in 2023. His breakthrough came in the 2025 Uttar Pradesh T20 League, playing for Noida Super Kings, where he scored around 320 runs and took crucial wickets, earning the Emerging Player of the Season award.

In the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), he scored 112 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 169.19 and took 9 wickets with an economy rate of 6.76. He has also featured in first-class cricket, debuting in October 2025.

Known for his lower-order hitting (often compared to David Miller, earning him the nickname "Miller" in academies) and left-arm orthodox spin, Veer is seen as a like-for-like replacement for Ravindra Jadeja due to his all-round abilities. He idolizes Yuvraj Singh and wears jersey number 12 in his honor.

IPL Career

In the IPL 2026 mini-auction (held in December 2025), Veer entered with a base price of ₹30 lakh. Intense bidding involving teams like Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad drove his price to ₹14.20 crore, with CSK securing him. This tied the record for the most expensive uncapped Indian player. CSK viewed him as a long-term investment, especially after trading Jadeja, and had invited him for pre-auction trials.

As of December 2025, Veer has not yet debuted in the IPL but is expected to play under MS Dhoni's mentorship at CSK.
