BCCI and Sports Minister Back Rohit Sharma
Harbhajan is not alone in supporting Rohit. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia also criticized the remarks, stating:
“It’s very unfortunate that such comments come from a person holding a responsible position, especially when India is playing an ICC tournament and preparing for the semi-finals.”
Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also weighed in, calling Mohamed’s comments “outright pathetic.”
Congress and TMC should leave sportspersons alone as they are fully capable of handling their professional lives.

What Did Shama Mohamed Say?
Shama Mohamed sparked controversy by calling Rohit Sharma “fat for a sportsperson” and the “most unimpressive captain India has ever had.” She further criticized his leadership, stating:
“What is so world-class about him when compared to his predecessors? He is a mediocre captain as well as a mediocre player who got lucky to be the captain of India.”
Her comments have drawn widespread backlash from fans, former cricketers, and officials, reinforcing Rohit Sharma’s stature as one of India’s finest players.
As India heads into the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-finals, Rohit Sharma remains focused on leading the team, despite off-field controversies.
