Maxwell becomes sixth player this season to be fined as BCCI enforces stricter discipline in IPL 2025
Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 8, 2025.
While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not disclose the exact incident, it confirmed that Maxwell admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.”
📌 What Does Article 2.2 Cover?
As per the IPL Code of Conduct:
“This includes any actions outside normal cricket behavior such as hitting or kicking the stumps, damaging advertising boards, boundary ropes, dressing room doors, windows, or any other ground fixtures in frustration.”
This is not the first such incident this season. Earlier, Ishant Sharma was fined for a similar violation while playing for Gujarat Titans against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Match Highlights: PBKS vs CSK
Despite Maxwell’s frustration with the bat—scoring just 1 run—he delivered a tight spell with the ball, finishing with figures of 1/11, including the key dismissal of Rachin Ravindra, which proved crucial in PBKS’s 18-run win over CSK.
The match was headlined by Priyansh Arya blazing century, which helped Punjab post a commanding 218-run total. Arya’s knock of 103 off 42 balls earned him widespread acclaim as the second-fastest Indian century in IPL history.
Maxwell Joins List of Penalized Players
Maxwell is now the sixth player this season to face disciplinary action. Other players fined or penalized in IPL 2025 include:
Player | Offence Type |
---|---|
Ishant Sharma | Equipment abuse |
Rishabh Pant | Slow over-rate |
Riyan Parag | Code of Conduct violation |
Digvesh Singh | On-field misconduct |
Glenn Maxwell | Article 2.2 (equipment abuse) |
Final Word
While Maxwell inconsistency with the bat remains a concern for PBKS, his bowling efforts in the CSK game contributed to their victory. The BCCI’s move to penalize even high-profile players underlines its zero-tolerance policy toward disciplinary breaches, aiming to maintain the spirit of the game throughout IPL 2025.
