Monsoon session begins July 21; Opposition seeks PM Modi’s reply on key national issues
Ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, set to begin on Monday, July 21, 2025, the Central Government has expressed its readiness to discuss a wide range of issues, including the controversial Operation Sindoor, during an all-party meeting held on Sunday. However, the government also issued a firm reminder to the Opposition that any such discussions must take place in accordance with the rules and procedures laid down in parliamentary conduct.
At the meeting, senior ministers emphasized the importance of maintaining order during the session, while underlining the government’s openness to a structured and rules-based debate on Operation Sindoor—a matter that has drawn national and international attention in recent weeks.
Opposition leaders, meanwhile, made a strong pitch for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally address the Parliament on Operation Sindoor. They also demanded a formal clarification regarding U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks, in which he claimed to have brokered peace talks between India and Pakistan. The statements by the former U.S. president have sparked political debate and raised diplomatic concerns, prompting calls for a transparent response from the Indian leadership. In addition to foreign policy matters, the Opposition has also sought a detailed discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, which is currently underway. Several Opposition parties have alleged irregularities and have demanded assurance from the government that the process will remain fair, transparent, and constitutionally sound ahead of the upcoming elections.
The monsoon session, which comes at a politically sensitive time, is expected to witness intense debates across both Houses. With pressing national and international issues on the table—including electoral integrity, cross-border diplomacy, and national security—the upcoming days in Parliament will be crucial for the ruling party and the Opposition alike.
