OpenAI has introduced its latest AI language model, GPT-4.5, marking a significant advancement in artificial intelligence capabilities. This new model is designed to enhance pattern recognition, foster creative insights, and exhibit greater emotional intelligence, all while substantially reducing the occurrence of AI-generated inaccuracies, commonly known as “hallucinations.”

Key Features of GPT-4.5

  • Improved Emotional Intelligence: GPT-4.5 is engineered to better understand and respond to social cues, making interactions feel more natural and human-like. OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, described it as “the first model that feels like talking to a thoughtful person.”
  • Reduced Hallucination Rate: The model demonstrates a significant decrease in generating false information, with a hallucination rate of 37.1%, compared to GPT-4o 61.8% and the o1 reasoning model 44%
  • Enhanced Creative Capabilities: GPT-4.5 excels in tasks requiring creativity and nuanced understanding, such as writing, programming, and problem-solving, making it a versatile tool for various applications.

Availability and Access

Currently, GPT-4.5 is available as a research preview to ChatGPT Pro users, who subscribe at $200 per month, and to developers via OpenAI API. The company plans to extend access to ChatGPT Plus and Team users next week, followed by Enterprise and Edu users.

However, due to the model’s substantial computational requirements and associated costs, OpenAI is evaluating the feasibility of maintaining long-term API access for GPT-4.5. CEO Sam Altman noted the challenges posed by GPU shortages, which have temporarily limited the model’s broader rollout.

Future Developments

Looking ahead, OpenAI is focusing on integrating chain-of-thought reasoning into its models. GPT-4.5, internally referred to as “Orion,” is expected to be the last model without this feature. The upcoming GPT-5 aims to unify the capabilities of previous models, eliminating the need for users to choose between different versions.

As AI technology continues to evolve, OpenAI GPT-4.5 represents a significant step toward creating more intuitive and reliable AI interactions, setting the stage for future innovations in the field.
