Rohit Sharma has been named the captain of the ICC T20I Team of the Year for 2024 after leading India to their second T20 World Cup title. Despite a dip in form in Test cricket, Rohit added an ICC trophy to his captaincy achievements and emerged as the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament.
Three other Indian players, pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, along with all-rounder Hardik Pandya, also made it to the ICC XI. Jasprit Bumrah was named the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup 2024 for his outstanding performance.
Other players in the ICC XI include Australia’s Travis Head, who had an exceptional year, including stellar performances in the T20 World Cup and IPL. Phil Salt of England earned the No. 3 spot after smashing three T20I centuries in 2024.
Nicholas Pooran, the top run-scorer across T20s in 2024 with over 2,000 runs, was selected as the wicket-keeper. Pakistan’s Babar Azam, despite a modest T20 World Cup, found a spot with 738 runs in 23 innings.
All-rounders Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe), Hardik Pandya (India), and Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) were included for their all-around brilliance. Pandya stood out in the T20 World Cup, and Rashid Khan led Afghanistan to their maiden semi-final.
Among bowlers, Bumrah picked up 15 wickets during the tournament, while Arshdeep Singh was the leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets. Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga joined Rashid Khan in the spinning department to complete the lineup.
