The global phenomenon Squid Game has done it again. The third and final season of the hit South Korean thriller officially premiered on June 27, and within just three days, it has shattered records across the Netflix platform.
According to Netflix’s Tudum, Squid Game Season 3 has garnered 60.1 million views globally within its first 72 hours, making it the most-watched Netflix series in that time frame. Not just that — the show has climbed to the No. 1 spot in 93 countries, further cementing its place as a cultural juggernaut.
A Historic Milestone for Netflix
This new benchmark overtakes the previous launch records set by other Netflix hits. What’s more, Squid Game is now the only series ever to debut on Netflix’s “Most Popular” list in its very first week, thanks to back-to-back high viewership from Seasons 2 and 3.
Season 2, which debuted in December last year, had four days of tracking in its first week. Season 3, with only three days, still managed to surpass it — a testament to the series’ unmatched momentum and fanbase loyalty.
Season 3: Deadlier Games and Bigger Stakes
The third season picks up directly after the shocking cliffhanger ending of Season 2. Main character Seong Gi-hun finds himself at another crossroads — but this time, he’s not playing just for survival. The stakes are higher, the games are more brutal, and Gi-hun must make painful choices that affect not just himself, but the lives of other remaining contestants.
Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game follows 456 desperate individuals competing in deadly versions of children’s games for a life-changing prize of 45.6 billion won. But the price of losing? Death.
Global Hype: Netflix’s Largest Fan Activation
Ahead of the season premiere, Netflix went full throttle with immersive global promotions. One of the most striking events took place in Seoul, South Korea, where over 38,000 fans participated in a themed parade and fan meet-up from Gwanghwamun to Seoul Plaza — complete with Squid Game’s iconic pink guards.
What’s Next for Squid Game?
With Season 3 bringing the series to an intense and emotional conclusion, fans are already buzzing about the potential spin-offs or future projects in the Squid Game universe. Given its massive success, it’s safe to say Netflix won’t be closing the door completely.
