WhatsApp Rolls Out Exciting New Feature

WhatsApp has rolled out a slew of new features designed to enhance user experience across its core functionalities — Chats, Calls, and the Updates tab. With updates focusing on ease of use, better communication, and improved functionality, these features are already making waves among both Android and iPhone users.

🔹 What’s New in WhatsApp Chats

Among the standout additions to Chats is a real-time online indicator for group chats. Users can now instantly see how many members are online, displayed right below the group name — a simple yet useful tool for dynamic conversations.

Another notable update is the notification highlight feature in group chats. This allows users to prioritize messages by selecting either:

  • “Highlights” — alerts you only when you’re mentioned, replied to, or messaged by saved contacts.
  • “All” — receives all notifications from the group.

One of the biggest features to debut is the event creation tool within both group and one-to-one chats. Users can now:

  • Schedule events with start and end times
  • RSVP as “Yes,” “No,” or “Maybe”
  • Add a plus-one to the event
  • Pin the event within the chat for quick access

Additional quality-of-life improvements include:

  • Emoji reactions to messages
  • Document scanning support on iPhone
  • Set WhatsApp as your default messaging and calling app on iOS

🔹 Upgrades to WhatsApp Calling

For iPhone users, WhatsApp now supports video call zooming. With a simple pinch gesture, you can zoom in during video calls — on yourself or the person you’re speaking with.

Another welcome upgrade is the ability to add someone to a live one-on-one call directly from the chat thread, streamlining the group call process. WhatsApp has also improved overall video call quality, promising smoother, higher-resolution interactions.

🔹 Major Updates in the Updates Tab

The Updates section has received key upgrades, especially for Channel admins. New features include:

  • 60-second video notes that can be shared directly with followers
  • Voice message transcription for better accessibility and clarity
  • QR code generation for Channels, allowing easier promotion and sharing across platforms
