Food and grocery delivery platform Zomato announced on Thursday that it will officially rename itself to Eternal Ltd., unveiling a fresh logo as part of this major transformation. This change comes over two years after the Deepinder Goyal-led company began using “Eternal” internally.

In a letter to shareholders, Deepinder Goyal, the company’s founder and CEO, revealed that the board has approved the name change. He urged shareholders to support the transition, marking a significant milestone for the company.

Corporate Shift to Eternal

“If and when the change is approved, our corporate website will move from zomato.com to eternal.com, and the stock ticker will be updated from ZOMATO to ETERNAL,” Goyal wrote. Eternal will now comprise four major business verticals:

  • Zomato: The popular food delivery platform
  • Blinkit: The quick grocery delivery service
  • District: A logistics division
  • Hyperpure: A B2B food supply platform

The Journey from Foodiebay to Zomato and Beyond

Goyal recalled Zomato’s remarkable journey, which began in 2007 as Foodiebay before being rebranded as Zomato. Over 17 years, the company became a pioneer in India’s startup ecosystem, becoming the first food tech company to join the BSE Sensex on December 23, 2024.

“This journey has created immense wealth for employees, investors, and shareholders. However, I didn’t start Zomato for money. It all began as a simple attempt to upload takeaway menus on a website out of service spirit. I never imagined it could be a business,” Goyal explained.

Why the Name Change to Eternal?

According to Deepinder Goyal, when Zomato acquired Blinkit, the internal usage of the name Eternal began to distinguish between the parent company and the brand.

“We wanted to publicly rename the company to Eternal when something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future. With Blinkit, that time has come,” he stated.

What Does ‘Eternal’ Symbolize?

Goyal expressed both excitement and humility about the new name. “Eternal is a powerful name. It scares me to my core. It’s a tall order to live up to because ‘Eternal’ carries both a promise and a paradox. True permanence isn’t built on bold claims of invincibility or the swagger of success,” he concluded.

This move signifies Zomato’s ambition to grow beyond food delivery and establish itself as a diversified tech company with an enduring legacy.
