Union Home Minister Amit Shah said he was “deeply pained by the tragic loss of lives,” offering condolences to the bereaved families and wishing strength to those affected. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the incident as “deeply anguishing,” calling the loss of innocent lives “heartbreaking.”

The stampede reportedly broke out during a campaign event organised by Vijay, founder-president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). While the exact trigger remains unclear, several of the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, and further updates on their condition are awaited.

This tragedy marks one of the deadliest incidents at a political rally in Tamil Nadu in recent years.
