Meta Platforms, Inc., formerly known as Facebook, Inc., is an American multinational technology conglomerate based in Menlo Park, California. The company owns and operates Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Oculus among other products and services. Founded by Mark Zuckerberg along with fellow Harvard College students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes in 2004.

The company operates one of the world's largest social networking platforms with over 3 billion monthly active users across its family of apps. Meta has been at the forefront of social media innovation, introducing features like the News Feed, Facebook Live, Stories, and Marketplace.

In 2021, Facebook rebranded to Meta Platforms to reflect its growing focus on the metaverse—a collective virtual shared space created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical and digital reality.
