X Corp., commonly referred to as X and formerly known as Twitter, is an American social media company based in San Francisco, California. It operates the microblogging and social networking service X (formerly Twitter), where users post and interact with messages known as "tweets". Registered users can post, like, repost, reply to, and quote tweets, while unregistered users can only read public tweets.

Founded by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams in March 2006 and launched in July 2006, the platform quickly gained worldwide popularity. In 2022, Elon Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion and rebranded it to X in July 2023, with plans to transform it into an "everything app" similar to China's WeChat.

X is known for real-time information sharing and has become a vital platform for news dissemination, public discourse, and social movements. Features include Spaces (audio chat rooms), Communities (topic-based groups), Lists (curated timelines), and Premium subscriptions. The platform's character limit evolved from 140 to 280 characters, and now offers longer-form content through X Premium. X processes over 500 million tweets daily and has become an essential tool for journalists, politicians, celebrities, and businesses for direct communication with their audiences.
