Jana Nayagan Release in Trouble: Madras High Court Reserves Verdict, CBFC Orders Fresh Review

Thalapathy Vijay Jana Nayagan

The challenges continue for Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan, his last movie before entering full-time politics. A day after the producers sought legal intervention, the Madras High Court reserved its verdict, creating uncertainty around the film’s scheduled release on January 9. As of now, all shows before 10 am stand cancelled by default.

During the latest hearing, the court confirmed that Jana Nayagan will be reviewed by a fresh Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) committee.

This delay has become a major setback because the Tamil certification is mandatory before clearing the dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Following these developments, the Book Tickets option on BookMyShow has reportedly disappeared in several cities.

The producers approached the court after waiting over a month for certification. Originally listed on January 6 and then shifted to January 7, the case has intensified release-day tension. Earlier, on December 19, the CBFC had already suggested cuts and muted dialogue.

Fans Continue to Support Despite Delays

Even with the legal uncertainty, fan enthusiasm remains massive. Advance bookings are exceptionally strong:

  • Karnataka: Several 6 am shows — including Gopalan Grand Mall, V Cinema, Sri Vinayaka, Cinephile HSR Layout, and Brundha RGB — are already sold out.
  • Kerala: Trade reports show promising advance sales.
  • Overseas: Early estimates suggest collections have crossed ₹25 crore.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain in key roles.
