Varun Aaron Joins Sunrisers Hyderabad as Bowling Coach Ahead of IPL 2026

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have announced the appointment of former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron as their new bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2026 season. The franchise made the announcement via a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), calling it a “fiery addition” to their support staff.

Aaron, known for his raw pace during his playing days, will now help shape the next generation of fast bowlers in the SRH camp. He joins a coaching lineup led by Daniel Vettori as head coach, Simon Helmot as assistant coach, and Muttiah Muralitharan as spin bowling coach.

A New Chapter for Aaron

The 35-year-old former India international recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in January 2025. In his retirement note, Aaron wrote, “Fast bowling has been my first love, and though I step off the field, it will always be a part of who I am.”

He brings years of experience, having represented India in 9 Tests and 9 ODIs between 2011 and 2015, taking 18 and 11 wickets respectively. In the IPL, Aaron played for multiple franchises including Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans, picking up 44 wickets in 52 matches with best figures of 3/16.

SRH’s Road Ahead

SRH had a mixed record in recent seasons. They were runners-up in IPL 2024, narrowly missing the title to Kolkata Knight Riders, but crashed out early in the 2025 edition. With this new appointment, the team is clearly aiming to rebuild and strengthen their bowling attack.

Aaron is also currently part of the broadcast team for India’s tour of England, showcasing his deep involvement in the game even off the field.

With the 2026 season fast approaching, all eyes will be on how this former speedster transitions into his new role and what impact he’ll bring to the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling unit.
