Rashid Khan has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket. The Afghanistan leg-spinner surpassed West Indies’ Dwayne Bravo during the first qualifier of SA20 between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals. Rashid, who captains MI Cape Town, led his team to victory by 39 runs, securing a spot in the tournament final.

In this historic match, Rashid needed just one wicket to break Bravo record. He achieved the feat by dismissing Dunith Wellalage in the 10th over of the innings. Rashid finished with impressive figures of 2/33 in his four overs, taking his overall tally to 633 wickets.

The accomplished bowler expressed his joy after the record-breaking achievement, stating that he looks forward to reaching even greater milestones across all cricket formats.

Rashid Khan Statement:

“It’s a great achievement. I never thought about it, if you asked me 10 years ago, I wouldn’t have imagined this. It’s a proud feeling to represent Afghanistan and top the table. DJ Bravo is one of the best T20 bowlers. It’s an honour, and I’m excited to continue,” Rashid said during his interview with the host broadcaster.

Top T20 Wicket-Takers List:

  • Rashid Khan: 633 wickets
  • Dwayne Bravo: 631 wickets
  • Sunil Narine: 574 wickets
  • Imran Tahir: 531 wickets
  • Shakib Al Hasan: 492 wickets

Among active players, Sunil Narine, Imran Tahir, and Shakib Al Hasan are in pursuit of Rashid’s record. Narine is the closest with 574 wickets in 536 matches and is expected to play for several more years. However, given Rashid Khan’s consistent performance and young age, he is well on track to potentially surpass the 1000-wicket mark in T20 cricket.
